The History of Tennanah Lake Golf & Tennis Club
On top of the world at an elevation of more than 2000 feet, Peter Wolff built what is now known as one of the oldest surviving resorts of the Catskills. In 1910 he built the Tennanah Lake House, turning his once small boarding farmhouse into a leader in tourism in Sullivan County. Wolff needed to offer his guests fleeing from the heat of the city more to do, so he began construction of a 9 hole golf course. By 1935 the 400 acre resort expanded to accommodate 500 guests. By 1952 the nine hole golf course was redesigned by golfing legend Sam Snead, expanding to an 18 hole course. Today Tennanah Lake Golf Course is the oldest operating golf course in Sullivan County.
